Why did we do this crazy thing?

We’ve asked ourselves that more than a few times.

Opening a coffee lounge inside an art gallery wasn’t exactly on our vision board back when we were building wood mosaics out of our garage. But then again, nothing about Bailey Builds has ever followed a straight line.

From the beginning, this whole journey has been about chasing creativity and creating spaces where people can feel something real. And somewhere along the way, we realized: coffee does that too.

We’re both big believers in the slow moments—the ones where you pause, look around, and let something beautiful (like art or a killer cappuccino) sink in. We wanted to create a space where people could gather, linger, connect, and breathe in the same kind of inspiration we feel when we’re building something by hand.

So yes, this may look a little unexpected. But then again, so does a mosaic—until you see how all the pieces fit together.

BB + Coffee is an extension of everything we’ve always loved: community, creativity, comfort, and a touch of the unexpected. And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The People Behind the Pour

Let’s be real—great coffee doesn’t just happen. It takes skill, passion, and the kind of people who care as much about the experience as they do about the espresso. That’s where Corey and Candie come in.

From 7:30am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday, these two are behind the bar crafting the drinks that fuel gallery wanderings, mosaic-making, and deep convos over cortados.

Corey is our menu mastermind—he’s spent over a decade in the coffee world and knows his way around a flavor profile like we know our way around a chop saw. He brought serious expertise to BB + Coffee and helped us design a menu that’s both elevated and approachable. Whether it’s a silky-smooth latte or a lavender-honey espresso tonic, every detail has Corey’s signature stamp on it.

Candie brings the energy, the hospitality, and just enough sparkle to light up the whole lounge. She's part barista, part mixologist, all heart. She’s the kind of person who remembers your name, your drink order, and probably your dog’s name too. And her love for people shows in every single pour.

Together, they’ve helped turn this “crazy idea” into something that just works—a rhythm, a ritual, and a whole vibe.

They’re not just crafting drinks. They’re part of the creative formula.

Why West Duluth?

We didn’t just set up shop in West Duluth by chance—we chose it. This part of the city is hands-down one of the most creative, community-driven, and straight-up inspiring places in all of Minnesota. And honestly? We kind of love that not everyone knows that yet.

West Duluth is where you’ll find artists welding sculptures in their garages, musicians jamming in alleyway studios, and neighbors who show up for each other like it’s second nature. It’s gritty, it’s soulful, and it’s packed with creative energy that doesn’t need a spotlight to shine.

For us, it’s the perfect home. Bailey Builds started here—hammering out mosaics one board at a time—and BB + Coffee was born here too. This neighborhood has supported us, challenged us, and inspired us at every turn. And now, we’re proud to add a cozy 1920s-inspired coffee lounge to the list of West Duluth’s hidden gems.

Think moms catching up over lattes while the kids snack on a croissant, freelancers chasing deadlines with a side of espresso, and casual creative chats that might just turn into mosaic masterpieces. It’s got that welcoming, come-as-you-are feel—like your favorite living room, but with better coffee.

Evenings Upstairs

When the sun dips, the upstairs space transforms. Warm lighting, mellow vibes, and that unmistakable hum of people winding down in the best possible way. We’ll be hosting Evening Coffee + Mosaic Salons—yes, salons—where you can sip, build, chat, and relax in good company.
